WFB Hosts Meritorious Ceremony to Honor Her Majesty the Queen’s 48th Birthday and Formally Confers "Ovadacariya" Title upon His Eminence Somdej Phra Mahathirachan

BANGKOK, 1 June 2026 — The World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) organized a meritorious and chanting ceremony at the Sanya Dharmasakti Conference Room, WFB Headquarters, to celebrate the auspicious occasion of the 48th Birthday Anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana.
The religious proceedings were graciously led by His Eminence Somdej Phra Maha thirachan, Abbot of Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram (Wat Pho), and Chief Superintendent of the Northern Ecclesiastical Region, who presided over the monastic assembly. Joining him were 49 distinguished Buddhist monks of high ecclesiastical titles, led by Phra Rajwatcharapundit, who collectively chanted protective prayers and blessings dedicated to Her Majesty.
On the lay integration side, Mr. Phallop Thaiarry, President of the World Fellowship of Buddhists, presided over the ceremony. The event was well-attended by the WFB Executive Committee, representatives from prominent local Buddhist organizations including the Department of Religious Affairs and the WFB Regional Centres, alongside devout Buddhist participants.
During the ceremony, the assembly engaged in mindfulness meditation and offered traditional Thaiyadhamma (monastic offerings) and lunchtime meals (Phatta-han Phen) to the Sangha. Blessings were devoutly made, invoking the triple gems to grant Her Majesty Queen Suthida robust health, supreme happiness, and long life.
Coinciding with this auspicious day, the WFB formally held a ceremony to present the prestigious title of "Ovadacariya" (Spiritual Advisor) to Most Venerable Somdej Phra Maha Theerajarn. Mr. Phallop Thaiarry presented the title on behalf of the organization, following a resolution unanimously approved during the 31st General Conference of the WFB on 5 December 2025.
The conferment of this honorary title stands as a testament to His Eminence Somdej’s lifelong dedication and profound contributions to global Buddhism. It recognizes his exemplary leadership within the international monastic community, as well as his steadfast guidance and continuous patronage of the WFB's global missions.
