Many people are suffering as a result of the unprecedented floods that have engulfed a third of Thailand. Therefore, I cannot thank those who have contributed enough for your kindness and compassion which we will direct and manage to ensure that a variety of the most needy urgencies receive appropriate funding or assistance as speedily as possible.

The WFB initially responded by appointing a coordinator and providing facilities and set up to request, distribute and organise incoming and outgoing humanitarian relief donations and offers of assistance. This Humanitarian coordination operation is based in the WFB Headquarters and also receives donations of practical items and related humanitarian support directly from the local community as well as from overseas.

Currently, the operation is as follows:

•    WFB Humanitarian Operations Centre functioning at the Headquarters to provide direct services and coordinate with, and between, all relief agencies and the Royal Thai Armed Forces. This is also a centre for the local community to bring donations.
•    The Headquarters staff and volunteers have assembled and distributed 5,000 dry food packs and necessities (potable, toiletries and medical supplies).
•    A World Buddhist Kitchen has been set up in conjunction with Wat Phra Rama 9 and Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan located in Bangkhen District, Bangkok and the combined Royal Thai Armed Forces. This kitchen is producing 10,000 cooked meals per day.
•    500 moulded boats capable of carrying 10-12 people each have been purchased and are in the process of distribution where needed the most.
•    10,000 sets of World Buddhist medical supplies and First Aid sets are being distributed.

This is the First Phase of rescue which is to provide vital immediate assistance to be followed the Second Phase of restoration support during the period of making the devastated areas habitable again and then the Third Phase of long term support until all vital services have been restored. The period immediately following the crises will leave many people homeless and jobless, these people will require long term assistance for some time to come until permanent places for accommodation and employment are established.
