Dear friends in the Dharma,
The Thai Regional Centres and Headquarters of The World Fellowship of Buddhists in conjunction with the Royal Thai Government and Sangha Council have organised Buddhist merit ceremonies and cultural events to commemorate the auspicious 7th Cycle of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand as follows:
Sunday 6th November – In Thai tradition, the presentation of alms to 85 Thai and foreign Buddhist monks will take place at 7:00am at The WFB Headquarters in the Benjasiri Park, Bangkok. Further merit making will follow with the sparing of life of a cow and a buffalo plus the releasing of fish and birds.
Monday 7th to Wednesday 9th November – During this period there will be various events, such as presentations, conferences and symposiums, honouring His Majesty’s life and commitment to Buddhism and the Thai people. There will also be chanting and offerings at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in the grounds of the Grand Palace. The WFB HQ has humbly requested that His Majesty graciously grants an audience so that we may personally deliver our deepest respects and gratitude. His Majesty is the Patron of The WFB and the Headquarters are provided by the Royal Thai Government by His Majesty’s command.
Thursday 10th to Saturday 12th November – The 10th is the full moon in November that is culturally celebrated with the Loy Krathong Festival. As well as the floating of Krathongs on the waterways of Thailand, The WFB will acknowledging the cultural influences of His Majesty, such as his sponsorships and initiations of Sunday School to teach Buddhism and other initiatives to preserve and develop our Buddhist heritage. When his Majesty came to the throne he declared that he would “reign with the wisdom of the Dharma for the good of all”. We humbly acknowledge his regal sincerity and immaculate fulfilment of his declaration.
Please note that “Official Invitations” to The WFB organised events will be sent to each eligible WFB Regional Centre, WFBY and WFB Associates from the President.
